The news of the death of two young people, among dozens more, has caused a commotion coronavirus.
More specifically, one ended last night 28 years old who was hospitalized at the University Hospital of Patras and how he became known, had no underlying diseasewhile one also finished 24 years old in Larissa, with a report of an illness in obesity.
Intense epidemiological burden in the central and northern sector of Athens
If the traffic chaos that has prevailed in the past two days in Attica could be included in the … indicators of the epidemic, the resurgence of the epidemic after the holidays could be considered safe. It is true, however, that Christmas days will be a “regulator” for the New Year’s celebration, with the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection, Nikos Hardalia, having made it clear that if the measures are not observed at Christmas, there will be even stricter restrictions during the New Year.
With almost 100 more cases than the day before yesterday, the 937 new diagnoses registered yesterday by the National Public Health Organization (EODY) cast a small shadow on the optimism of those responsible that daily cases consolidated in three digits this week.
Yesterday’s EODY report included, in addition to the usual “hard data” of intubated and dead cases, weekly data on the transmissibility index, Rt and the positivity of the cases in all the tests carried out. Thus, the picture of 937 new cases is completed with 495 intubated and 62 deaths, a heavy count without a doubt, especially for the relatives of the victims and patients, as well as for the health system that continues under great pressure.
The transmission rate, the number that indicates the reproduction of the infection, has dropped to 0.67, which means that 100 people infected with coronavirus will infect another 67 people. This is a large number, which obviously needs to be cut in half to be considered to control the spread of the virus.
Also, in the week of December 14 to 20, the positivity rate was 3.01% out of a total of 98,374 molecular control tests and 97,971 rapid tests performed. The percentage was lower than the previous week; It is recalled that the European Infection Center (ECDC) has established the risk limit of the positivity rate at 4-4.5%.
The increase in cases to 212 from 179 brought Thessaloniki closer to Attica, which consistently maintains the “negative advantage” with 261 diagnoses and an intense epidemiological burden in central and northern Athens, with 56 and 43 cases respectively.
The slightly increased epidemiological situation is complemented by small differences in the number of two-digit diagnoses from the regional units of Acaya (10), Viotia (12), Kavala (19), Karditsa (16), Kilkis (22), Larissa ( 37), Magnesia (29), Xanthi (22), Pella (13), Pieria (23), Rodopi (19), Serres (17) and Trikala (11).
