Reactions in the local Mouria Kilkis community were sparked by the reopening of the immigrant hotel structure at a local hotel.
Dozens of locals gathered in front of the “Thea Dimitra” hotel near the Mouria train station in the afternoon, blocking the entrance to some 280 immigrants (mostly Afghans), who had been transported to the area by bus.
The structure closed in early March and residents were informed yesterday of its reopening with a simultaneous commitment from the Ministry of Transitional Policy that it would last until the end of September. In the evening, the crowd dispersed and the migrants settled in the hotel. At today’s meeting, the Kilkis Township Municipal Council issued a protest resolution against the settlement of immigrants, in which there is talk of “surprise government action.” As it was known, the structure will remain in quarantine for 14 days as part of the precautionary measures applied.
