The representative of the Ministry of Health, the infectious disease specialist Sotiris Tsiodras, announced on Saturday afternoon 8 new cases of coronary heart disease in our country, with a total of 2,620.

Mr. Tsiodras announced that in the last 24 hours we have three registered deaths, with a total of 143, 106 men and 37 women with an average age of 74 years.

Of the total number of cases, 593 (22.6%) are related to travel from abroad, 1301 (49.7%) are related to an already known case and the rest are not related to travel or another known case or are still under investigation.

Additionally, 37 of our fellow citizens are being intubated. Their median age is 67 years. 8 (they are women and the rest are men. 92% have an underlying disease or are over 70 years old.

It is positive that 77 patients have left the ICU.

A total of 78,207 clinical samples have been tested.

Mr. Tsiodras made a special mention to the EODY Mobile Health Teams that begin their activities on Monday, May 4.

The professor gave clarifications on the use of drugs for hypertension (pressure). As Mr. Tsiodras pointed out, 3 studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine, involving tens of thousands of people from Italy, Asia, North America, Europe, etc. showed that there is no risk of these drugs. At the beginning of the epidemic, there was concern that these drugs could overload the patient with coronavirus or make him more vulnerable to infection. However, after these studies, it turned out that there is no risk.

Tsiodras reiterated that 10 days after the onset of Covid-19 symptoms, no coronary heart disease had been reported and that the 14-day quarantine was a strict measure. Many times, a dead “material” of the virus can remain in the body and show a positive result while it is not.
