The rage in the commercial world of Thessaloniki, Kozani and Acaya, but also within New Democracy, is imposed after the decision made by the infectious diseases committee late Friday night, not to reopen the retail trade in these three areas on Monday, due to the coronavirus. sprouts.

A decision that the government does not intend to annul at the moment and that will be implemented, although it has already withdrawn the part of the inter-municipal travel ban. But the government is in a particularly difficult political position: on the one hand, it is the one that receives political discontent from merchants and citizens. On the other hand, he has been investing in the scientific legitimacy of the measures through the committee for the last year and he cannot just ignore it. Even if now the discontent in the government over the decisions of infectious disease specialists is evident.

It is recalled that on Friday in Parliament the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis himself had nailed the committee for the prohibition of inter-municipal travel with the code 6, stating that it was a decision of the specialists in infectious diseases and that he had his reservations from the beginning. .

It was preceded by direct shooting by the Minister of Development, Adonidos Georgiadis, against the committee, because it refused to open beauty salons and OPAP agencies. ND already whispers that the confinement can forever quarantine the possible ambitions of the vice president, who yesterday had to run to the operating room due to a problem in his leg.

The biggest headache for the government is how to explain to the shop owners, especially in Thessaloniki, why it is opening the shop in Athens which is in “deep red” and why the decision of the co-capital of Wednesday to Friday.

The reactions of merchants in Thessaloniki were angry and the trade association of the co-capital asks the government to withdraw the decision today. Polichni merchants in particular insist that they will open on Monday in any case. The president of the Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce, Pantelis Filippidis, contacted the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection, Nikos Hardalias, who denied responsibility for the decision to the committee. But Mr. Filippidis warned: “We are starting a fight that the government will know 100%.” With this in mind, it is not surprising that government officials reportedly had no particular willingness to go to Thessaloniki to “massage” the merchants.

But also in Patras, merchants threaten to open without the presence of employees to protect them from the consequences. The chestnuts from the fire in Acaya have been removed, apparently in consultation with Maximou and the Ministry of Development, by the Vice Minister of the Interior, Stelios Petsas, who will meet today with the mayor of Patras, Costas Peletidis, and then with representatives. of the merchants.

The government is rightly exorcising the need to impose fines on merchants who open their stores despite the ban, but they apparently have no other choice. So they will do their best to convince the business world of these three areas to have a little more patience.
