Julietta Boukouvala made serious complaints about the beatings and threats she suffered while she was a judo champion, in a letter to Deputy Sports Minister Lefteris Avgenakis.

I come from Ioannina and when I was little my dream was to be an Olympian, I was a talent, a child who had more physical and mental strength than other children and that is why my mother at the age of 15 decided to send me to Athens to make my dream come true. Come true.

We were not a wealthy family, so we had to find a place to live and eat, so the Panhellenic General Assembly took me to their facilities.

When my mother took me to Athens to let me (alone) make my dream come true, she told me the following: my son, you see from there Omonia, there are drugs, women who free themselves and the whole underworld and here is your dream, you choose where you want to go.

These coaches, therefore, due to the fact that they did not have Greek citizenship, it was easy for them to bring athletes and turn them into Greeks to fight for Greece (for a fee, of course).

Thus, a very strong team was created by all of them, but without including almost any of the athletes who were born in this country, fought, suffered, dreamed, etc.

Of course from what you understand created a climate of envy and opposition and this is because when an athlete was with them they had everything, while the others did not even exist.

I will give you an example so that you understand what I mean: Elias Iliadis, when he arrived in Greece they knew he would become what he is, they knew he was talent and he had everything, he had a team around him of doctors, physiotherapists and the entire federation above him, the then coach took me and left me alone in Slovenia, to sleep on the floor for not having a coach, doctor, nothing.

When we get back of preparation before the 2004 Olympic Games, Coach X’s team told me that there is a contract that has conditions and if I sign it I will join the team with the favored ones.

I never signed it because what they told me was written on it is contrary to the ideas I had and that’s why I was blacklisted along with another athlete who also did not sign.

From then on, everyone was against me, none of Coach X’s staff members were ordered to talk to me and not help me at all. The athletes were instructed not to talk to me. and when I got injured I had to find the solution alone or even for my weight.

They did not let me change my weight category, they told me that if I changed my weight they would not take me to the races, they put some people who, of course, did not have medical papers, to tell me that I should only drink term instead of water and eat a toast with caviar all day, I did it too because I just wanted the medal.

At the airport, leaving for London, they called me and They told me that my fight is ready and that they will never let me get a medal. because i’m only greek as a male voice with broken Greek told me on the phone.

I reacted at the wrong time and moment because I am just a human being and I said where are the Greeks to support me, and then came the free shot.

I fought in court to be vindicated and I succeeded in court, but my name was never restored by all those who I regret to say are in sport to cover up the dirty work they do outside of sport …

Today I am in Thessaloniki, I am struggling with physical pain because of the hardships and beatings I have a problem with my neck and I am in danger of a small disability in my hands but also in my psyche that all this left me.
