Diplomatic sources in Cairo are trying to dispel the rumors circulating in Ankara’s propaganda about the Turkish-Egyptian rapprochement on the issue of the delimitation of the EEZ in the Eastern Mediterranean.

According to the same sources, the Turks’ claims that they were close to a deal with Cairo are false, adding that Egypt continues to reject the Turkish-Libyan memorandum.
“The Egyptian side remains firm in its position to reject the naval agreement signed between the Libyan National Accord government and Ankara,” diplomatic sources said.
“Egypt’s respect for the maritime borders of the Mediterranean countries is not new and Turkey’s efforts to claim that the two countries have negotiated are incorrect,” they added.
The Egyptian side’s comments to Arab News came as a result of accusations made by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu that Ankara would conclude an agreement with Egypt under the agreement reached with Libya and has signed the agreement of the ONU.
It should be recalled that the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, recently had a telephone conversation with the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during which they discussed issues of their bilateral cooperation in the eastern Mediterranean, especially in the field of energy.
According to Arab News, Turkish activity has caused strains in its relations with neighboring countries, especially Greece and Cyprus, as Ankara seeks to control regional waters that may contain significant amounts of natural gas.
