The objective is the protection of democracy and citizens, and on the occasion of what happened in Nea Smyrni square. SYRIZA-PS is expected to respond positively.
In order to protect democracy and citizens, the secretary of MERA25 Giannis Varoufakis calls on SYRIZA-PS and the KKE to common action.
The motive for this action by Mr. Varoufakis was the events that occurred in Nea Smyrni, with the crescendo of authoritarianism and the recital of police violence in the town square.
It is noted that both SYRIZA and the KKE have condemned government and police violence, even Alexis Tsipras saying that what happened in Nea Smyrni is the last straw.
THE SYRIZA expected respond positively on Mr. Varoufakis’ appeal, with sources in Koumoundourou stating that the official opposition has long emphasized that there are common fields of action, and also noting that SYRIZA will now more forcefully reiterate Al. Tsipras’s request for a debate in the Parliament on democracy and rights in the midst of a pandemic.

Varoufakis is the following: “Faced with the escalation of state repression that now threatens the Republic and leaves citizens unprotected by the praetorians of Mr. Mitsotakis-Chrysochoidis, MERA25 calls on the KKE and SYRIZA to take action to protect democracy and citizens. “I cannot imagine that, at such a critical juncture, we will be unable to coordinate our actions in favor of democratic legitimacy.”
