Yesterday the apologetic memoir of the -now jailed- former artistic director of the National Theater, Dimitris Lignadis, was published. The complaints made against the Association itself, but ultimately against each of its members individually, are not original. They have been used – by others – in the past and have nothing to do with reality.
The attack we received, once again, shows that our Union is a weapon in our hands. A powerful and timeless weapon that can protect each and every one of us with its action. After all, that is their role. Always. Defend the interests and rights of abused actors, but not only sexually, but also at work and in education.
We are convinced that the objective of the attack on our Association -founded in 1917- is to disorient society from the merits of this case and the general question and we will not fall into the trap of defending the obvious: the need for collective bodies and struggles for everybody. A small and a big problem that concerns us as an industry, as has been the case for so many years.
At this point, due to the fact that Mr. Lignadis’s line of defense implies that a “conspiracy” has been organized by lawyers – legal advisers of the PPC, we must inform that the PPC has only one legal adviser, who has provided advice and legal services over time. . to the union for matters related to collective bargaining agreements, collective labor disputes, labor disputes between our members and employers, as well as for matters related to the operation of the union, based on the statutes and the law. Lately, the unprecedented wave of complaints from our fellow actors against other actors and / or directors refers to issues related to criminal law. For this reason, the SEI Administration, whenever the complainants requested their assistance, suggested – in parallel to their written complaints to the SEI – that they go to the criminologists, if they so wished.
As a result of all this, after today’s meeting (02/26/2021), the SEI Board of Directors decided the following:
- the announcement of the General Assembly at a location to be designated immediately (taking into account all sanitary measures in force) on Sunday 3/21/2021 (the next relevant announcement will follow)
- in addition to the proven and yet indisputable anti-union, anti-union and anti-union action of Mr. Dimitris Lignadis, as explicitly expressed through the slanderous, disparaging and shameful complaints about our Association in his memorandum of apology resulting from his pre-arrest of the trial For serious crimes, contrary to the common sense of humanity and of law (article 8 paragraph 5 of the Company Bylaws), following a unanimous decision of the Disciplinary Council, the Board of Directors of SEI proposes the definitive dismissal of our member Dimitris Lignadis Immediately next Assembly General of our Association on 3/21/2021 (or when due to postponement).
All the actors, regardless of the performance evaluated by third parties, defend our Association, our struggles and through them our dignity in our work and our lives. We have been and will always be by the side of all the victims who managed to break the silence, overcome all obstacles (personal, social and, most importantly, institutional) and report names.
We are not judges to get used to the horror of the accused, or journalists to follow communication tactics, or infallible, but we declare that through our mistakes we are willing to learn. We speak spontaneously, openly and always with political thought, representing only our industry, without external interventions. We are angry because they are hurting us, they are ridiculing us, they are hurting us, because our wounds are many, deep, incurable, old and fresh, and our sensitivity is everywhere.
Acting is our art, hypocrisy is alien.
We reaffirm our conviction that we will continue to fight for the good, the moral order, the right to the dignity of our position, our inalienable labor rights, the signing of collective agreements, in order to prevent similar morbid phenomena in the future. And to vindicate all this, we finally announce a series of mobilizations for which we will soon publish the relevant calls:
- a pan-arts course on Thursday, 3/4/2021
- our participation in the work stoppages and mobilizations announced on Monday 8/3/2021, for Women’s Day
- and, our participation in the “anniversary” mobilizations of the whole year of Culture closed on 13 and 14/3/2021.
We are together and strong. We are not blackmailed nor are we afraid.
And we will not leave anyone alone. And only to nobody.
