Closure: Commission suggests one-week extension in Attica

According to reports, the experts of the infectious diseases committee who meet today like every Friday suggest the extension of the lockdown in Attica for a week, that is, until March 7.

This means that if the experts’ suggestion is accepted, Attica residents “say goodbye” to Tsiknopempti and look forward to Clean Monday.

According to the information, the focus of the experts’ discussions is the imposition of a strict blockade in other areas with an epidemiological burden.

In any case, the extension of one week of lockdown suggested by the experts does not mean that it will be the last before the lifting of measures.

Experts will examine the epidemiological data next week and judge again. Specifically, they will have more data on the course of the virus in Attica at least until next Wednesday to be able to speak with confidence about whether or not the measures will be lifted.

However, the data, especially for Attica, is not good at all, and experts say that this week we should see a reduction or even a stabilization of cases (as happened in the previous two weeks) and not a sharp increase.

In addition, the strong increase in the positivity index, which has exceeded 3, but also the pressure on the NSS worry the experts as everything shows that the hard lockdown still does not work.

The Vice Minister of Civil Protection, Nikos Hardalia, will make more announcements in the afternoon.
