The former artistic director of the National Theater was taken to prison after a marathon investigation process, Dimitris Lignadis, who is charged with serial rape.
The defendant, who denies the facts alleged against him, did not convince an investigator and a prosecutor who unanimously decided to put him in preventive detention shortly after 2:00 a.m.
In this way, the first act … of the drama came to an end, although his lawyer, Alexis Kougias, announced an appeal against the temporary detention, since – as he said – there is no evidence. However, he stressed that if the accused was someone else, he would be released.
The long apology and the “emptying” of the witnesses
It is noted that the decision of the Prosecutor’s Office came after the long testimony of the defense witnesses, as well as the director’s apology, where he received a barrage of questions.
At your memoMr. Lignadis alleged that, at the time he allegedly committed the criminal acts for which he is accused, he was not even in the places where the violations are reported to have occurred.
To do this, he invoked an alibi for both the 2010 and 2015 rapes, proposing defense witnesses and pointing out that the accusations against him are fabricated.

At this point, however, came the “surprise” of two of the five witnesses, who stated “ignorance of the merits of the case.” As they stated in their advertisement, they were themselves characterized by the director’s lawyer, Alexis Kougia, as “defense witnesses” without their consent being asked or asked.
In a joint statement, Messrs. Ioannis Panagopoulos and Agisilaos Mekelatos state that “we do not know anything about the merits of the case and we are unaware of the reasons why our information was made public in the press by the defense of Mr. Lignadis.”
They add that “the second of us, was in Ithaca in August 2015, invited by Mrs. El. Kourkoula, but not on August 8 and / or 9, but as of August 10 and remained only until August 13 and / or 14 “. “After that, you can’t know anything about the period before August 10, 2015,” they add.
Instead, actress Eleni Kourkoula and her ex-husband, Dionysis Panagiotakis, as well as her brother Dimitris Lignadis were called to testify as defense witnesses in Evelpidon.
“There is no doubt that he will be acquitted,” says Alexis Kougias.
However, Alexis Kougias expressed his certainty that his client, Dimitris Lignadis, will be acquitted in court.
Speaking to MEGA, the renowned criminologist referred to the marathon apology of the former artistic director of the National Theater, referring to the complete deconstruction of the accusation against him.
At the same time, he pointed out that with the data that have emerged and that are in the memorandum that has been made public, “any doubt about both facts is precipitated” for which Dimitris Lignadis is accused.
In both cases, he even claimed that there is evidence, such as tickets, hotel reservations and photographs that prove that the director was not at the place where he was placed.
Asked about the possibility of the director’s preventive detention, he replied that “no one can think of judges and prosecutors”, since “the judicial decision is like the old pregnancy, when there was no ultrasound.”
In any case, he was quick to point out that “there is no doubt that he will be acquitted in court.”
