Towards a German blockade of the AstraZeneca vaccine against Covid-19 for those over 65? In a draft recommendation that came to light, German health authorities believe that the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine should not be used in people over 65 after the “vaccine war”.
According to the Financial Times, a statement from the Standing Committee on Vaccines of the Robert Koch Institute, Germany’s main public health body, stated that “there is currently insufficient evidence to establish the efficacy of the vaccine for those over 65 years of age.”
In this context, the committee recommends that the vaccine be used exclusively in people aged 18 to 64 years.
The commission said the two vaccines, already approved by EU authorities, by BioNTech / Pfizer and Moderna, were considered “equivalent in terms of safety and efficacy.”
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is expected to announce its decision to approve the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine on Friday.
AstraZeneca on Monday denied a German report that its vaccine is not effective in people over 65.
