“It was the right choice to open economic and educational activities in Greece based on the country’s epidemiological data,” said Elias Mosialos, professor of Health Policy at the LSE.
“Obviously other countries are moving in different directions than ours. Can we take a breather? Yes, in my opinion,” he added, speaking with SKAI, however, he cautioned that this does not mean that this will continue for long.
As he explained, we must be careful on three issues to delay the next wave of the pandemic, mentioning first the observance of the Public Health protection measures.
The professor stressed that it is positive that most citizens now wear a mask and added that he is not concerned about the outdoors, but what is happening inside the stores. “If the measures are observed when our compatriots enter the stores, then there is less concern,” he noted.
He stressed the need to focus on horizontal measures, saying that “protective measures must be taken horizontally, everywhere, without exception.”
Finally, he highlighted the need for adequate sampling. “The third crucial issue is to correctly measure the pandemic data and therefore perform a lot of diagnostic tests.” These three did not take place in northern Greece last fall and that is why the situation escaped, “he noted.
