At the age of 87, Larry King, the legend of the American talk show, passed away, who during his career received thousands of interviews from world leaders, politicians and people from the show.
According to international media, King was hospitalized in Los Angeles with symptoms of coronavirus.
He was born on November 19, 1933 in Brooklyn to Jewish immigrant parents.
Aaron’s father was from Austria and Jenny’s mother was a Lithuanian seamstress.
Larry King has dreamed of making a career in radio his entire life. He started out as a morning DJ in Miami, Florida in 1957 and then entered the national television and radio scene in 1978, gaining a loyal audience thanks to the special way he conducted interviews.
The US network CNN commissioned him to present a program in a high visibility area in 1985, while he remained in this position until he was replaced by British Pierce Morgan in 2010.
King continued to host network specials until 2012, when he left CNN to start his own company, Ora TV, with Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim. King has come under fire in recent years for his work with Russian state broadcaster RT.
Even when he was at the peak of his career, his critics had accused him of preparing poorly for interviews and failing to “squeeze” his guests with difficult questions. He himself admitted it and justified himself saying that “he preferred to learn with the spectators”. In addition, he stated that he did not want to be considered a journalist.
Larry King had been married eight times to seven women (his last marriage to Shawn Southwick ended in divorce in 2019).
In 1987 he suffered a heart attack and in 2017 he was diagnosed with lung cancer.
In 2019 he suffered a stroke and in five weeks in August 2020 he lost two of his five children, namely his son Andy, 65, from a heart attack, and his daughter Saia, 51, from cancer of the lung.
