A few days before taking office, US President-elect Joe Biden ignored a phone call he received from Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, according to the Middle East Eye.
According to a report, Erdogan’s office asked to speak to Biden last month, but although several weeks have passed, the conversation has yet to take place.
Biden’s choice not to answer the phone is not surprising, as he had declared in the run-up to the elections that he would take a different approach to Ankara during his rule.
It is noted that even Erdogan did not immediately congratulate Biden on his electoral victory on November 3, on the contrary, he was one of the last leaders of the world. The Turkish president, as is well known, had especially good relations with the outgoing president, Donald Trump.
Both Biden and Erdogan’s associates declined to comment on the “unanswered phone call” despite Middle East Eye’s demands.
However, a Biden spokesperson said the communications team would continue to announce any congratulatory phone calls from the president-elect.
