There is no contraindication for people with G6PD deficiency to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to LSE professor Elias Mosialos, the lack of this enzyme is widespread in Greece.
However, people with a deficiency of this enzyme should not worry about the vaccine.
The teacher’s post in detail:
“Partial or full deficiency of the G6PD enzyme is quite widespread in Greece. This is the reason why many people are not allowed to come into contact with mothballs or eat beans.
Why is this happening;
It is an enzyme that contributes to the normal function of red blood cells. In patients, the lack of the enzyme causes the wall of red blood cells to break down, also known as “hemolysis.”
These hemolytic episodes are triggered by certain conditions, such as bacterial or viral infections, or as I said, by foods and certain classes of medications. In these conditions, these people can develop hemolytic anemia and severe jaundice.
“There is no contraindication for these people to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.”
MRNA and G6PD deficiency vaccines – no contraindications
Total or partial deficiency of the G6PD enzyme is enough …
