The opposition between the Church and the government appears to be increasing, as there is information about appealing to the CoC against the measures.

At the same time, according to information on the orthodoxia.info website, Archbishop Ieronymos “will go to a point in Attica”, within the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Athens, to sanctify the waters of the Epiphany, although this is not allowed by the JMC.

Furthermore, according to the same information, the 82 Metropolises of the Church of Greece will appeal to the Council of State against the measures. This movement is also announced by means of a circular that was sent to all the Dioceses, according to information from the newspaper “A Vima”.

This circular establishes that the Holy Synod authorizes Archbishop Ieronymos to go to a “maritime zone within the limits of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens” to sanctify the waters, without the presence of believers.

The circular also states that the Holy Synod “appeals directly to the Council of State” against the new JMC, on behalf of the Church of Greece and the 82 Metropolises.

The anti-church government

In today’s meeting, the Holy Permanent Synod unanimously decided that it does not agree with the new governmental measures for the operation of the holy temples and announced that it adheres “to what was initially agreed with the state and orders that the holy temples remain open to the participation of the faithful in the divine “. the service and sanctification of the waters within the holy temples, the feast of the Epiphanies “.

At the same time, he asked the government to fully respect the JMC of December 15, “without further problems”, noting, among other things, that at Christmas and New Year all the measures were observed in the temples.

Shortly afterwards came Maximou’s response, in which the government called on the Church to “realize the urgency of the moments for society”, as it has done so far, while emphasizing that the law cannot be applied to Will.

“The Holy Permanent Synod with its decision does not consent to the new measures regarding the functions. But the law cannot be applied at will so that whoever does not agree can ignore it. We hope that the Church realizes the urgency of the moments for society, as it has done so far with responsibility. The implementation of preventive and precautionary measures is an obligation but also an act of social solidarity and responsibility of all of us, “said Maximou among others.
