What’s changing in gun law?

The changes in the arms legislation were announced on Saturday 2 January by the Ministry of Civil Protection and the Hellenic Police.

The announcement in detail:

It is announced that, on the occasion of the reform of Law 2168/1993 “on weapons”, after the approval of Law 4678/2020 and the Ministerial Decisions delegated by it, in whose provisions significant changes were made in the legislative framework on the matter of weapons and until When its update is completed on the Hellenic Police website, interested parties can obtain relevant information by contacting the competent police services of their place of residence (contact details are available at www.hellenicpolice .gr).

In this context, it is announced that:

Holders of hunting weapons that do not bear the prescribed mark (that is, from paragraph 3A of article 5 of Law 2168/1993: name of the manufacturer or trade name, country or place of manufacture, serial number, year of manufacture and model when possible), whether they are licensed or not, they must until 9/11/2022 with their personal responsibility be interested in the completion of the marking process of their weapons, contacting the Security Department in time or where there is no contact the Police Department, of the place to be informed of the details and the corresponding procedure.

It is pointed out that the previous marking process solves the problem of sale, transfer, export, inheritance that hunting arms owners had without the provided marking. Likewise, those who possess said weapons do not mark them until 9/11/2022, their weapons will be withdrawn or confiscated as the case may be by the competent police services.

Further:

Holders of collector licenses of weapons, historical or family relics, whose licenses had been issued by the competent Police Services until 8/4/2016 and had not provided the collectable certificate of their weapons and their deactivation if necessary (according to the circumstance of section 1 of article 2 of 3009/2/84-d΄ of 27.7.2004 ua), they are obliged to present it until 12/31/2021. It is noted that after 12/31/2021 licenses will be revoked and weapons will be removed.
