A sea of people spilled on New Year’s Day on the beaches of Attica, despite restrictive measures being applied to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
Athenians in the midst of Covid flocked to Floisvos by the thousands and, ignoring calls from experts to restrict their movements, walked the beach under the blazing sun as if there was no danger of the virus spreading.
Many of the citizens, especially the younger ones, either did not wear a protective mask or used it incorrectly, while almost everywhere along the road, the necessary distances were not observed.
The police presence was evident, however, as can be seen in the images of the “Jungle” video that follows, at that particular moment, they were not carrying out controls. The police machine, on the other hand, passed with difficulty between the “waves” of citizens without checking if they had the necessary documents for their movement.
