Two men were miraculously rescued from the icy waters of the Arctic Circle when hopes for the other 17 crew members were dashed.
Onega sank in the early hours of Monday morning in the Barents Sea “due to the weight of the snow” that fell on the ship, according to Russian media.
Rescue efforts continue for the rest of the fishing vessel’s crew, at the same time that the Russian authorities investigate any criminal act.
Vladislav Butorin, 40, and Ruslan Katyukhin, 30, were rescued from the icy waters, with a temperature that dropped to -22 degrees Celsius. Authorities believe they are the only two to make it out of the wreck alive.

I clarify it Vladimir Putin, that hopes for the rest of the crew are small.
The wife of a crew member, Alyona Bondarenko, told authorities that her husband called her and told her that the ship was covered in ice before sailing. “Why did they start fishing at those temperatures?”
“A person cannot survive in such conditions for more than 15 minutes,” said a spokesman for the rescue team.
According to investigations, the vessel was covered with snow and sank under its weight.
