The Democratic Party expresses its concern about the government’s silence and lack of transparency regarding the latest events related to the decree for the expansion of Greek territorial waters.
Faced with a situation in which the Hellenic Republic has declared the extension of its territorial waters to 12 miles, it is perfectly legal for every Albanian citizen to raise these questions with the Albanian government:
Six questions
1. Why has the Albanian government not been transparent in the negotiations for the definition of the maritime border with Greece, despite the fact that negotiations to this end have been resumed since 2013?
2. What are the elements that have been negotiated, in relation to what was agreed and what was not agreed?
3. Has the idea of the Greek government extending its territorial waters from 6 to 12 miles ever been discussed? If so, what was the position of the Albanian government on this point?
4. Did the Greek side extend territorial waters to 12 miles and put Albania in a less favorable negotiating position?
5. Has the Albanian government analyzed the legal and other consequences of this extension, which has long been reported in the media?

He will fight for the law
The Democratic Party of Albania is fully committed to the observance of International Maritime Law, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of Montego Bay of 1982, the observance of the rights of all parties and the protection of the rights of the Republic of Albania for the benefit of all. these maritime zones, which according to international law belong to the Republic of Albania.
The Democratic Party calls on the government to act with total transparency in any action or inaction against the interests of the country and guarantees to every Albanian citizen that tomorrow in power they will fight by law, according to the ruling of the Constitutional Court, with the best nationals and international technical knowledge, for the protection of the legitimate interests of the Republic of Albania.
Strong Rama reaction
According to abcnews.al, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted on the voices that followed the approval of Greece’s decree for the 12-mile extension in the Ionian Sea.
The head of government, through a post on Twitter, writes that the extension of the 12 miles of Greece in the Ionian has nothing to do with the Ionian zone between Greece and Albania.

“We have reached an agreement”
