Deputy Minister for Civil Protection and Crisis Management, Nikos Hardalias, sent his own message for this year’s Christmas celebrations in a post on Facebook.
Mr. Hardalias points out, among other things, that his commitment is to be by the side of those who need them, while emphasizing that there is no more important gift than life itself, all life. Finally, it reminds us that we will spend these holidays with restrictions but with those we love.
The following is the detailed message from Mr. Hardalias:
“We are always looking forward to Christmas, although this year will not be exactly the same as all the previous ones we have experienced. We await you with joy and love. And we have much to say and more to celebrate. Because these holidays are also a great crossroads between two years, in 2020 and 2021, which will forever show us both aspects of human existence:
How vulnerable, how fragile and unprepared we can be in the face of unprecedented difficulty.
But also how strong, capable and determined we can become along the way.
And for us, in the Civil Protection family, this year has made us feel more than ever that protecting human life is not just a job. Because protecting human life has long ceased to be just a job for us. We were in floods, fires, earthquakes, on every border, in cities, in towns, in airports and, of course, in the greatest challenge of the century: Covid-19.
And it is our commitment to always be there, where it is needed, next to whoever needs us.
And because the holidays are always a time for gifts, I would like to emphasize how much we believe that there is no greater gift than life itself, every life.
So let’s spend this vacation with restrictions, but with those we love. But above all, let’s take care, take care, protect each other.
So we will leave behind a year that seemed like a heavy winter, to open a new path, with strength, security, optimism and, above all, health for all.
Happy birthday and happy holidays. “
