Pfizer President and CEO Albert Bourla expressed his belief that the pandemic was coming to an end, speaking on state television. The solutions we have in our hands, he added, are so effective that it is only a matter of time before we get to the end.
Mr Bourla stressed that vaccine shipments to the EU had started and expressed his firm confidence that everything would be done according to proper safety standards. He explained that every detail is reviewed until the final stage of delivery of the coronavirus vaccines. He estimated that by the end of the year Greece will receive “between 90,000 and 100,000 doses.”
Regarding the new coronavirus strain, he said he was moderately optimistic that they would not affect the effectiveness of the Pfizer / Biontech vaccine. He added that the final data that will show whether the vaccines are the same or more effective in this strain of coronavirus will be known in about two weeks.
In any case, Mr. Burla said that the good thing about the messenger RNA technology used in the Pfizer / Biontech vaccine is that they can soon modify the vaccine “because we do not use live or attenuated viruses, we do not even use proteins in the vaccine” .
“It is a messenger RNA that we send.” We can change the code in the liposomes that we have and something that can be done very quickly and we can immediately produce new vaccines. “
Mr. Bourla said he was “blessed” to be in this position and at this juncture and together with all the Pfizer staff he rose to the occasion. “The sensation that I feel is very great, deep,” he said characteristically.
