Traffic on the streets of Attica increased by 37.5% in the second closure

Images reminiscent of pre-quarantine times are becoming more and more visible, in recent days, on the streets of Athens.

Regarding spring lock, during the second ban, traffic increased by 37.5% while it decreased only by 15.4% compared to the corresponding period last year, according to data from the Traffic Management Center of the Metropolitan Infrastructure Management Directorate.

In particular, vehicle traffic was down sharply in the first run of the bulls, while overall, the biggest decline appears to be on Central Avenue, Mediterranean University and Syggrou.

In general, the arteries with the greatest load are Kifissou Avenue, Poseidon Avenue, Vasilissis Sofias and Kifissias. During the second crash, traffic increased by 37.5% compared to the first crash.

Also in relation to the second confinement, it has been recorded that compared to 2019 the traffic was reduced only 15.4%. In a similar comparison for the first block, it appears that in March 2020 the traffic in Attica was 49.5% less than in March 2019.

From the statistics traffic data analysis (March and December 2019/2020) for 12 main arteries of Attica the following was observed:

– Traffic during the second block appears to have increased by 37.5% compared to the first block. This is due to the differentiation of restrictive measures in the second phase.

– In the second closure recorded so far, traffic decreased by 15.4% compared to the corresponding period last year (December 2019) when we still did not have the issue of the pandemic.

– The corresponding comparison for the first block showed that in March 2020 the traffic in Attica was 49.5% lower than in March 2019.

Also of interest are the rates of decrease or increase in traffic depending on the time period. Typical examples are

– University (77.3% reduction!), Patision – Alexandra (only 3.8% -9.8% reduction)

– Mesogeion – Syggrou (up to 59.8% reduction) / Slide 8

Also from the data it appears that the four busiest roads It is Kifissou Avenue that has the highest daily load, followed by Poseidonos Avenue, Vasilissis Sofias Avenue and finally Kifissias Avenue.
