British authorities have identified a new “worrisome” mutation of SARS-CoV-2 in the country, Health Minister Matt Hancock announced on Wednesday, and therefore imposes restrictions, with immediate effect, on travel to and from South Africa. .
“We have identified two cases of another new coronavirus mutation here in the UK,” Hancock told a news conference. Both patients are contacts of people who have traveled to the country from South Africa in recent weeks.
“This new mutation is very concerning because it is even more contagious and it appears that (the virus) has mutated more than the (first) mutation found in the UK,” he added.
According to the APE-MPE, the minister announced that the travel restrictions will be implemented without delay, while anyone who has recently traveled to South Africa or who has had close contact with travelers from that country should be “immediately quarantined.”
Asked about it, the British minister said he was “convinced that world normalcy will return from 2022”. In short, patience is needed.
