The Deputy Minister of Civil Protection, Lefteris Oikonomou, advised citizens to be patient and observe the restrictive measures against the spread of the coronavirus, speaking on the ANT1 morning show “Good morning Greece”.

He acknowledged that we are in a difficult time for the holidays, but stressed that we are facing a new reality and we must all adhere to the measures of “not turning back.”

Commenting on the comments of some special cases, where the prohibition seems absurd, such as the impossibility of a couple to board the same taxi, Mr. Economou said that if we consider each measure separately and the exceptions that may exist, it would be “a conversation without end”.

He stressed that when a citizen believes that he is being wronged, he can file an objection and it is examined sensitively, when necessary.

Two SMS for moving in on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day

The Undersecretary of Civil Protection recalled that up to nine people from two families can be found at the festive table, while clarifying that it is allowed to travel from municipality to municipality in large regions, such as Attica.

The vast majority of the measures are observed, Lefteris Oikonomou said, citing the percentage of violations that are confirmed during the inspections that are carried out. He announced in advance that the controls will be intensified in the next period and will be strict.

Especially in regard to trips for Christmas and New Year’s Eve, the Vice Minister of Citizen Protection clarified that citizens must also send SMS when they return home, always bearing in mind that after 10 p.m. there is a traffic ban.

As for the ecclesiastics of the faithful, he said that it should be done after an indication relevant to the purpose of the movement and taking into account that the allowed number of people in the Holy Temples is strictly limited.

The Undersecretary of Civil Protection finally wished everyone “patience and optimism”.
