“Nine months since the state’s digital portal, the well-known gov.gr, first operated, it is now literally transferred to our mobile phone, the state is now in our hands. An application that will make it easier for citizens to carry it with them at all times any electronic document you need, from simple authorizations to notarial deeds, but also to be able to trade with the State from wherever you are “said the prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the beginning of the videoconference for the presentation of the govApp application and the data.gov.gr open data platform, which took place yesterday, Monday at noon.

“Every effort, every initiative that has a digital stamp is not just a modernization effort, it is a political intersection that has a social content and a reference to the citizen. The digital state means less bureaucracy, it means more transparency, it means better service to the citizen. The digital economy means higher productivity, new investments, more jobs. “Digital communications ultimately means security, speed, and an easier everyday life for everyone,” Kyriakos Mitsotakis said.

He also mentioned the importance of open data in the new era. “I want to emphasize that today this initiative is accompanied by the opening of the data.gov.gr. It is a platform that gives access to 38 databases of the Greek state, so that citizens know what they know about the state, using the information for their own plans. But of course we also know very well that this open data has the potential to create significant wealth, “Since they can be used by many companies that specialize in processing such data,” he said.

The Prime Minister congratulated the leadership and the executives of the Ministry, adding that “this is a series of successive steps by the country towards its digital transformation. A few days ago we paved the way for fifth generation networks. Greece is the third country to do so, after Germany and Austria. Proof that we are now traveling at a very fast pace the technological distance that separated us from other advanced countries ”.

Minister of State and Digital Governance Kyriakos Pierrakakis stated: We had the pleasure of introducing the Prime Minister to the gov.gr platform for mobile phones and the platform for the provision of open state data. These are two very important initiatives of the Ministry of Digital Governance, each of which comes in its own way to strengthen civil society, both in terms of daily life and in terms of business and research.

The gov.gr application on mobile phones gives citizens access to the state’s electronic services wherever they are, it is essentially a “digital briefcase” with multiple functions.

The radical redesign of the data.gov.gr platform was a major problem for the country. Now, the free deletion of public data, from travel and rain to demographics and crime, will be a valuable research tool and a factor in developing and attracting investment.

A state with digital presence

The gov.gr application, govApp, allows citizens to have access at any time to all digitized public services through their mobile phone or tablet, since now they can easily view all the documents that have been issued on their mobile devices electronically on your behalf, such as solemn declarations, warranties and certificates.

Via gov.gr and govApp Each citizen has a “box”, where all their electronic files are safely stored, while the corresponding boxes have public services. The user can share digital documents in his mailbox with other citizens, while very soon he will be able to share files with the service with which he wants to communicate, even through his mobile phone.

Therefore, it is possible for the state to provide quick and easy electronic service through any device, regardless of whether the user is at home, in the office or on the go.

In addition to managing and reporting existing documents, the application, which is already available for Android and iOS users, allows citizens to request the release of new documents. In the first phase, it is possible to issue responsible authorizations and declarationshowever, the application allows Internet access to the other gov.gr services until they are integrated into your environment.

GovApp even offers the additional ability to verify the authenticity of printed electronic documents to ensure the integrity of the system. Citizens will be able to scan the unique mosaic (QR code) of the printed document with their mobile phone camera, then the original document will appear complete on your screen and you can compare immediately.

The gov.gr portal now offers 822 services, while just a few days ago it had 750, and by the end of the year it is estimated that it will approach 1,000. The gov.gr ecosystem also includes the platform for vaccination against the coronavirus, while the possibility of electronic issuance of criminal records and electronic transfer of property will also be integrated shortly.

During yesterday’s meeting, the new Greek state portal data.gov.gr was also presented, where all interested parties, researchers, private companies and ordinary citizens, can have unfettered access to open data.

38 datasets have already been integrated, which are divided into nine thematic sections. Over time, more public bodies will provide data.gov.gr with data, turning the platform into a complete repository of open, free and strictly anonymous data.

The use of open data is estimated to stimulate economic activity for 3,200 million euros and create more than 1,000 jobs in five years.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of State and Digital Governance Kyriakos Pierrakakis, the Minister of State George Gerapetritis, the Deputy Minister of Digital Government in charge of Simplification of Procedures Georgios Georgantas, the Deputy Minister of Digital Government Commissioner of Digital Strategy Gregory Zarifopoulos, the Deputy Prime Minister Minister responsible for the Coordination of Government Work Akis Skertsos, the Secretary General for Digital Governance and Simplification of Procedures Leonidas Christopoulos, the Secretary General for Information Systems of the Public Administration Demosthenes Anagnostopoulos, the Secretary General for Telecommunications and the Information Society Stavros Asthenidis and EDYTE CEO Aris Sotiropoulos.

The entire introductory position of the Prime Minister.

Nine months after the state’s digital portal, the well-known gov.gr, operated for the first time, it is now literally transferred to our mobile phone, the state is now in our hands. An application that will make it easier for citizens to have the electronic documents they need with them at any time, from simple authorizations to registry deeds, but also to be able to trade with the State from wherever they are.

GovApp will not only be a mobile archive, but also a channel for issuing certificates. Initially, it will accept the most demanded requests for authorizations and responsible declarations and little by little it will give access to other popular services, such as intangible prescription, so critical at this time and for national vaccination planning. Whereas every transaction through gov.gr will automatically go to govApp.

We will have the opportunity in a while to show us exactly how the application works. I will simply say that today we are adding another link to the gov.gr evolution chain that already offers more than 750 services, ensuring the citizen, the business, the time and the money.

And I also want to highlight that today this initiative is accompanied by the opening of the data.gov.gr. portal. It is a platform that gives access to 38 databases of the Greek state, so that citizens know what they know about the state, using the information for their own plans. But of course we also know very well that this open data has the potential to create significant wealth as it can be used by many companies that specialize in processing such data.

We have seen some very interesting analysis on the number of jobs that open data can add to an economy, and I want to remind you that this is an effort, perhaps you remember Mr. Christopoulos, which started during my time at the Ministry of Administrative Reform 2014. Unfortunately, you have been stagnant for five years and that is why I am glad that today it is finally being done and I welcome you as Prime Minister.

It is a series of successive steps by the country towards its digital transformation. A few days ago we paved the way for fifth generation networks. Greece is the third country to do so, after Germany and Austria. Proof that we are now rapidly closing the technological gap that separated us from other advanced countries.

I end by reiterating that every effort, every initiative, that has a digital imprint, is not just a modernization effort, it is a political intersection that has a social content and a reference to the citizen. The digital state means less bureaucracy, it means more transparency, it means better service to the citizen. The digital economy means higher productivity, new investments, more jobs. Ultimately, digital communications means security, speed and an easier everyday life for everyone.
