One of the castles built by Ali Pasha at the beginning of the 19th century, it stands in a special place in Etoloakarnania, causing awe and admiration to its visitor. In the direction of Vonitsa to Lefkada, and just before approaching the Ionian island, you will find the Teke fortress, also known as the Grivas castle.

The strategic importance of this location, just one kilometer from the Lefkada Bridge in a place that perfectly controls the sea and land highway connecting Lefkada with Etoloakarnania, pushed Ali Pasha to build a fort on the hill, with the first attempt by Tuvo place in 1799. Initially, at this point there was a monastery from 1668, called Tekes, and it was the specific building that Ali Pasha wanted to turn into a fortress.

The purpose of the castle’s construction was to create a safe place that would ensure the occupation of the Agia Mavra castle. With the concession of the Ionian Islands to the French in 1807, the attack on castle of Agia Mavra was canceled and later Ali Pasha granted its use to the Grivai family, from whom it owes its widely known name.

Nowadays, the monument, which is not in very good condition, has some rooms and warehouses, while from the castle towers there is a wonderful view of Amvrakikos, the Ionian Sea and Lefkada.
