The 2021 budget in Cyprus was voted against with 24 votes in favor and 29 against.
The budget was unable to obtain the necessary consent of the House of Representatives and was rejected.

They voted against the deputies AKEL (16), DIKO (6), EDEK (3), Alianza Ciudadana (1), Ecologists (2) and the independent deputy Anna Theologou.
The 2021 budget was rejected, the Cypriot Parliament ruled.
According to the program, Parliament will now be called to vote in the first twelve months of January.
Specifically, the program was included as the last point on the daily agenda for a decision by the Chamber of Deputies that authorizes the expenditure of the Fixed Fund account for the year of January 2021. As in every example, the logic of the twelve tenths. per month.
It is the first time in the 60-year course of the Republic of Cyprus that this is happening, which will generate a series of problems that no government has had to deal with in the past.
Commenting on today’s budget vote, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis, wrote on his Facebook page that he feels deep sadness and disappointment.
He characteristically wrote that “Referring to the current vote against the budget for 2021, I express my deep sadness and disappointment, noting the following:
What will be recorded in the 60-year history of the Republic of Cyprus is for the first time, for reasons beyond the budget philosophy, its vote against.
I fully understand and respect the positions of the parties, which either as a result of different economic points of view or individual points of view on political areas, have taken a negative position when passing the state budget.
But what I don’t understand is the negative vote of the Democratic Party, which is trying to blackmail the legally elected government and neutralize other independent institutions.
The current behavior of the Democratic Party does not respond to the declared objective, nor to the well-intentioned interests of a society that, in the unprecedented conditions that we live in today, has the absolute need to support the State.
Failure to approve the budget is not the government that punishes, it is the companies that are in danger of failing today, those that are in danger of losing their jobs due to painful measures, vulnerable groups in need of Guaranteed Minimum Income and low-income retirees.
They punish those who need an effective health system, they punish those who are anxiously awaiting vaccination and an effective response to the pandemic.
I want to assure you that the government will not allow citizens to pay the cost of blackmailing a party.
“In the coming days we will continue the creative dialogue with the rest of the political forces to achieve the budget vote as soon as possible.”
