Premiere today at Proportional mileage charge on tolls, testing the ETC hybrid system in Olympia Odos by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Coast Ah. Karamanli and Secretary General George Karagiannis.
With the new system, which will be available from January 1, 2021 at Olympia Odos, drivers exclusively with their use OLYMPIA PASS transceiver, will be charged for the actual distance traveled by your vehicle.
More specifically, the new hybrid toll system has the ability to calculate the kilometers traveled by the user and automatically reimburse the money for the distance traveled, paying it directly to their account and offering up to 76% less highway toll.
In practice, this means that the driver passes the toll booth with its use PASS OLYMPIA and the fee is charged. At the Olympia Odos exit, the Hybrid system recognizes the transceiver and returns the difference in money, so the user is only charged for the kilometers traveled on the road.
Early in the morning, Minister Costas Karamanlis and Infrastructure Secretary General George Karagiannis used the transceiver. The vehicle passed through the Elefsina tolls, the amount corresponding to the Elefsina-Kineta section (2.10 euros) was charged to its account and when leaving the N. Peramos exit, the system recognized, calculated and credited the account Amount corresponding to the section N. Peramos – Kineta (1.40 euros). Thus, the invoice only charged the amount of the trip made by the vehicle (0.70 euros).
“Socially fair mileage charge”
In his statements, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Karamanlis shores He pointed out that the mileage charge corrects an injustice and solves a problem raised by citizens for many years.
“Since November 4, we have provided a solution to a seemingly ‘small’, but essentially important problem of what we call everyday life. Drivers can now go through all tolls on all roads with the only transceiver that already We innovated, doing what should be taken for granted: toll interoperability became a reality.
Now the next goal is the mileage charge. And the first step is taken today, at Olympia Odos. Drivers will only be charged for the part of the road they use. This will correct an injustice and solve a problem that citizens have been raising for years. We promise a fair charge tolls based on distance and we do. The Olympia Odos hybrid system also means fewer delays, as the vehicle will not have to stop to pay tolls. This is social law and now it begins to be a reality. “Congratulations to those who worked for this,” said Minister Costas Karamanlis.
How the Olympia Odos Hybrid System Works
The “Hybrid Charging System” (Hybrid ETC), a distance-based charging system, was a commitment by Olympia Odos, which began to design and then implement immediately after the completion of the Corinth – Patras construction.
It refers in particular to the strengthening of the existing “zonal” system with the installation of “Electronic Gates” (gantries) at selected exits of the road, so that O-pass subscribers are charged according to the kilometer traveled.
His idea is based on the debit-credit logic: the vehicle equipped with a transceiver goes through the front station, pays the full price of the loading zone and in case it leaves the road before the end of this zone, it is automatically returns and the amount corresponding to the distance not traveled is credited to the transceiver.
The hybrid system uses sensors, cameras and intercom systems installed at the entrance and exit junctions of the road. It is based on the creation of “Electronic Gates” with the location of the projection devices (ie metal carrier) and the technical E / M buildings needed in the existing toll stations. In particular, for the operation of the system, technological equipment (sensors, cameras and antennas of DSRC technology) were installed in 13 uneven junctions of Olympia Odos: Nea Peramos, Pachis, Ag. Theodoron, Loutraki, Epidaurus, Zevgolatio, Kiato, Derveni, Akrata, Kalavrita, Selianitika, Drepano and Meigon de Megara.
The hybrid system is aimed at Olympia Odos transceiver owners and works exclusively with the use of one transceiver. Drivers who choose to pay by cash or card necessarily continue to be burdened with the existing “zoning system.” The hybrid system also combines a closed loading system with bars (maintaining the previous system), with a free-flow open circulation system to give returns.
