Cases today: active cases and ICU fullness scare experts
Despite the imposition of the blockade, the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic continues to have dramatic consequences for the country. It should be noted that the deaths in the first 11 days of December amount to 1,066.
There are two elements that scare experts and prevent them from suggesting the lifting of restrictive measures for the coronavirus, despite the fact that we are a few days before the holidays.
On the one hand it’s about active cases, which remain elevated at all times, and on the other to integrity in ICU, which is still high. The message sent by Vana Papaevgelou at Friday’s briefing was clear: “The invisible enemy is here and will remain.” Our holiday homes can only become hotbeds overnight. “
“If we continue to comply with the measures, we estimate that we will have 300 intubated people on Christmas Day” and this will happen, he said, only if we continue to see a reduction in cases and if there is no spread of the virus in the coming days.
At the same time, there is concern about the start of active cases of coronavirus in western Attica.
More specifically, there are 392 active cases in West Attica prefecture and Acharnes municipality, with a mean age of 42 years. Their tracking revealed 764 people in close contact, who are in their isolated homes.
In this context, Mr. Hardalias addressed on Friday (11/12) a call to the residents of West Attica and Acharnes for the faithful implementation of the measures.
As for the companies, he stressed that they must, during their daily start-up, complete a list of client appointments, which will be compulsorily exposed to the competent auditing bodies.
Syphilis: restrictions until vaccination
Infectious Diseases Professor Nikolaos Sypsas considers restrictive measures necessary, although not as severe as now, until a wall of immunity is built in the population through vaccines.
He supported this while speaking to ANT1 about when the restrictions will be lifted.
When asked about the slow reduction in cases and intubations, Mr. Sypsas noted that: “When we started the confinement there was a great spread in the community. In March it did not exist. We entered our houses with the virus, in contrast to March. As a result, there is a dispersal within the family. The blockade is not as severe as in March. People are tired, they have been tired of telling you for months what to do and how to live. Possibly a harder block to bring worse results. These two reasons are responsible for the slow decline in cases but also for intubation and deaths. There we will see a drop two weeks after the drop in cases. We have a long way to go. “
Finally, in what has to do with the lockdown and if there was another way, especially for the market, he commented that: “If retail is opened, we will have a widespread spread of the virus. We will have overdiffusion. Two weeks later, in January, we will see the results. Imagine such a bomb exploding in Attica. See what happened in Thessaloniki with the much smaller inhabitants. We will be in great danger and the over-transmission will begin without having ICUs available. “
