The objective of the donation is to decongest the Theagenio Cancer Hospital in Thessaloniki, to which the Unit will organically belong, treating at least 35,000 cancer patients a year.
The “Nikos Kourkoulos” Day Unit, will be expanded to 1,800 square meters, will have a total of 41 places for chemotherapy
(27 armchairs and 14 beds), while at the same time it will be equipped with 5 medical offices, a cardiology laboratory, a blood collection room, an emergency room, a pharmacy, an escort area, a dining room, changing rooms and other auxiliary areas. The donation also includes the configuration of a space for the installation of a robotic system for the dissolution of cytostatic drugs, as well as the creation of a microbiological and hematological laboratory.
The Minister of Health, Mr. Vassilis Kikilias, stated that: “At this difficult time caused by the unprecedented pandemic, today’s donation sends a clear message that the strengthening of the National Health System is continuous and multifaceted.
