At 88, the Metropolitan passed away on Monday morning. Trikkis and Stagon Alexios. He was facing serious chronic health problems, while only in the last 24 hours he was hospitalized for pulmonary edema and diagnosed with covid19 positive.

He was elected Metropolitan of Triki and Stagi on October 1, 1981 and was enthroned 20 days later. He remained in office until September 2015, when he resigned in favor of his then Protosyggellos and now Metropolitan of Triki & Stagi Chrysostom. After leaving a very important work, Blessed Metropolitan Alexios (according to Theodoros) Michalopoulos was born in Piraeus in 1932. He graduated from the Theological School of the University of Athens in 1960. He became a monk at the Holy Monastery of Penteli in 1954 and was ordered in the same year. Agios Konstantinos Church in Piraeus by Blessed Theophilestatos Bishop of Marathon, Damaskinos.

He offered his services as a deacon in the Holy Dioceses of Xanthi and Piraeus, while he was a military preacher during the two years 1955-57.

He was ordained Elder in 1961 in Xanthi by the Blessed Metropolitan of Xanthi Mr. Antonios and was ordained Archimandrite the same day. He served in the Diocese of Xanthi as a preacher, teaching at the same time in the Ecclesiastical School.

In 1966 he served as Vicar of the Holy Metropolis of Drama and after occupying the episcopal throne he was permanently transferred to Drama, serving there as a preacher, clergyman and teacher of the priestly training school.

For five years he was appointed assistant bishop to the Blessed Archbishop of Athens and all Greece, the venerable Seraphim.
