From work at home the “chain” of transmission

The “chain” of transmission of the new coronavirus -and- in Greece is particularly resistant, since one month after the start of the general blockade, the viral load remains high, since daily positive cases continue to correspond to 9-10% of all tests, while the number of intubated remains at a very high level, as well as the average daily deaths, which is one click out of 100.

Why is this happening; Why doesn’t the pandemic pressure in the country decrease, despite the fact that a blockade has been imposed for several weeks? For two reasons, as the experts explain. Because on the one hand, the mobility of citizens is quite increased compared to the first confinement that was imposed, in March and on the other hand, because the chain of transmission of the coronavirus now concerns the work-home route. In other words, workers in companies or factories carry the virus into their homes and transmit it to the entire family, including older members, who are at higher risk of becoming seriously ill and suffering complications.

In addition, concerns about relaxation that have been observed in areas outside of cities prevail. As those responsible for the periodic briefing on Friday pointed out, another question that arises from the observations and data refers to behavior in the villages and the meetings that take place, despite the prohibition, between families.

Northern Greece does not come out of “red”

The situation in northern Greece remains in “red numbers”, while in the “frame” of concern have entered other areas, where the viral load does not decrease or, in some cases, it has increased.

Nikos Hardalias referred to the areas that are in “red”, but especially to six areas where there is no reduction in the number of cases and the epidemiological burden, with the main volume of new cases moving from cities to villages.

He also announced the activation of two more tools and specifically the prohibition of entry into the country of those who are positive for the new coronavirus and, in addition, the prohibition of visits to Mount Athos.

“Yesterday the extension of the confinement was announced until December 14. Active cases are 16,617. More specifically, of these, 7,031, that is, 42.3%, are in the Central Macedonia Region, 3,267, that is, 19.7%, are in the Attica Region, 1,777, that is, 10.7% are in the Thessaly Region, 1,590, that is, 9.6%, are in the East Macedonia and Thrace Region and 632, 3.8%, in West Macedonia “.

As observed by Mr. Hardalias, 86.1% of active cases are geographically distributed in 5 of the 13 Regions of the country. In particular, he noted that 66.4% are in the northern part of Greece.

In addition, he noted that Attica it represents 17.9% of active cases.

And continued:

“The percentages depend on compliance with the measures. Concerns for Xanthi, Pella, Drama, Florina, Pieria and Imathia. That is why we had a videoconference to evaluate the situation. In northern Greece, two out of three active cases are identified.

In these areas the epidemiological burden does not decrease and they present a constant number of cases and do not decrease, unlike other areas. Particularly in these areas, the cases occur in the villages. We make a recommendation to avoid any unnecessary movement, pending further tightening of the measures.

In Thessaloniki, Grevena, Larissa, Magnesia, Halkidiki, Kilkis, Karditsa, Serres, Trikala and Kavala there is still a high load.

Inspections will continue and we ask that protective measures be applied with dedication.
