A lot great success for the Greek scientific / research community, as well as through the “Flagship Action” of the Ministry of Development for the study of Covid-19, The first Greek rapid antigen detection test emerges (“Rapid antigen test”).

That is why it is announced that synthesis, isolation and characterization of a monoclonal antibody sequence of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. The sequences of the above antibodies, the method of their synthesis, as well as their fields of use, were presented in the context of a patent application (“patent pending”) in Organization of industrial property (OBI).

Following the above, the research program is already in the company search phase, which will mass produce monoclonal antibodies and place them on a special growth membrane (“strip”) to create a rapid antigen test (“rapid antigen test”), which It will allow a systematic and specific control of the population.

It is recalled that the “Emblematic Action” of the Ministry of Public Works, for an approximate value of 2.9 million euros, This is a research project aimed at the epidemiological study of SARS-CoV-2 in Greece by means of exhaustive virus and antibody tests, viral genome sequencing and genetic analysis of patients. This action is part of the broader strategy that the country is developing to deal with Covid19. The Greek research and scientific community, through the cooperation of 6 (six) Research Centers and 4 (four) IES, under the supervision and funding of the General Secretariat for Research and Technology, plays its own important role and mobilizes in the effort to address health and the economy. and social crisis. The implementation of such a program brings Greece to the global forefront of developments in the study of the virus and the production of knowledge to face this health crisis.

The competent undersecretary, member of Parliament for Corinth, Christos Dimas Regarding the results of the “Flagship Action”, he noted:

“Today is a great success for her Greek scientific community. From the outset, we envisioned the production of the “Greek test” as a way out of this unprecedented health crisis. A test that can, in a few minutes and reliably, inform the examinees whether someone is a carrier of the virus or not. It is a great achievement and a justification for the “emblematic action” of the Ministry of Public Works. that we must use it both in our country and internationally. This is a national success and, as Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had emphasized, at the beginning of the Flagship Action work, “it is very important for us to be able to use the exceptional human research potential at our disposal for a meaningful contribution. at the national investigation level in the fight against coronavirus. »I would also like to thank Minister Adonis Georgiadis for coordinating the Ministry of Development and Investment in the project and, of course, the Secretary General for Research and Technology Athanasios Kyriazis and the GSRT executives. for guidance and collaboration bodies. Finally, a big thank you to the Scientific Team, the Head of Research, Vassilis Gorgoulis and of course to all the participants in the action. Congratulations”.
