Today a ring has formed around the moon that is visible in many parts of Greece when there is no cloud. This phenomenon is known as halo in meteorology. It is an impressive phenomenon, especially when combined with a big moon like tonight.
Those who look at the sky and there are no clouds have the opportunity to see an impressive phenomenon tonight. The full moon is covered by a bright crown that sparks the interest of those who observe it. This phenomenon is called “Alos” by scientists and is caused by the refraction and reflection of sunlight or moonlight on ice crystals in clouds.
The old fishermen said that in 24 or 48 hours from the occurrence of this phenomenon bad weather arrives with stormy winds and heavy rain. According to the National Meteorological Service, a change in climate is expected tomorrow with sporadic rains and storms, initially in the west of the country and mainly in the coastal marine areas, which in the afternoon will spread to the rest of the country. The effects will be strong in western locations, the Peloponnese, starting in the afternoon in the eastern island country, Thrace, and temporarily in eastern Sterea, Evia, and the Cyclades. At night the effects in the northwest will weaken. Temporary snowfall is also expected in the mountains of the northwest of the continent.
