Since last July, a military post was established for the first time at Gavdos, the southernmost point of Greek territory, while it is expected that soon a military post will be established for the first time at Othonos, one of the Diapontia islands, the most western part of the Greek territory.
The installation of the military outpost in Gavdos did not provoke any reaction from Turkey. On the contrary, a high-ranking Albanian soldier, General Piro Ahmetaj (Piro Ahmetaj), who very often expresses anti-Greek positions in his publications with his articles, throws me against our country.
An Albanian general reacts
According to a publication by protothema.gr, in an article dated 11/16/2020, Ahmetaj states: “On the other hand, if we consider that it is real news that Greece at the time of negotiations with the Republic of Albania for the demarcation of water areas plans to develop military capabilities on an island with 400 inhabitants versus a NATO member country, then this would be a serious challenge that would degrade the spirit of mutual trust and relations between the two countries. In simple words, it would be foolish. “.
Ahmetaj also emphasizes that the installation of a Greek guard in Othonos means that our country has long-term goals and that the military perception of Greece has changed to expand control of maritime space.
Who
According to the same publication, the Albanian general was born on March 3, 1963. So he apparently began his military studies in the early 1980s, during Hoxha. He has been active in the Albanian Armed Forces for 35 years.
From 2009 to 2013 he was the national representative of Albania to the NATO Supreme Allied Command. In 2014 (January) he was appointed Defense Advisor to the Albanian President, while preparing studies for the reform of the entire Albanian national security and defense system.
Today, Ahmetaj is a security adviser to the Democratic Party of Albania. Lately, with numerous articles and publications, he has been attacking Greece and trying to provoke reactions from the Rama government.
