The newbie doctor in Ippokratio Thessaloniki Dimitris Peichaberis belongs to that 1% of the population who without dealing with underlying illnesses had the misfortune to show severe symptoms coronavirus.

THE Dimitris Peihaberis describes in a shocking post on Facebook, how from the doctor’s position, he suddenly went to the patient’s position. The dramatic moments at the Covid booth, where was forced to perform nursing tasks in parallel, “At a time when staff were running in a panic to treat hundreds of other patients”. The horror you felt when asked to be shown on video the axis of his lungs, the emotion you felt when saw his 65-year-old neighbor talking incessantly on his cell phone, being in a coma in the previous days. the sadness that flooded him when he saw another Covid-19 patient die next to him.

It all started a few days ago, when the Dimitris Peichaberis, was the home of quarantine suffering from the symptoms of Covid-19 disease.

“I took another shower in case the fever dropped. I was stunned, but I managed to hold out at the last minute. But I couldn’t take it anymore … 11 days at home in positive quarantine in the coronary I waited patiently and still the longed-for improvement did not When I decided, it was time to go to the hospital … Only this time I would not be wearing a mask, face shield or protective suit. I had crossed to the opposite bank … “.

In the clinic I knew what he was going to face. A disaster as the number of imports increased dramatically.

Would say: “Our clinic was full. In a room for three I was the fourth in an extra bed. The situation is dramatic. Real war. I have been living with this condition every day for the last few months as a specialist doctor in the Hospital’s Covid19 clinic. Hippocratic from Thessaloniki in the clinic where he was now being treated. For days the situation had gotten out of control. I was on call day after day with all my colleagues who were still negative about the coronary artery and the program was updated daily. The number of imports increased as November arrived, but we received less and less. My daily schedule was 24 hours on call without sleep, without a break to rest and forcibly a little time for water and food. And, of course, sleep the next day until 8-9 at night to go back to sleep and be on call the next morning in conditions that were difficult and were becoming more and more demanding. or, we gave and do our best together with all our colleagues and nurses on the front line. “Until my time came to contract the virus and how to escape working with such a high viral load for months?”

The specialist doctor is forced to be hospitalized, as his health was deteriorating. He was admitted and entered a ward with other patients, some of whom struggled to stay alive.

This is how he describes the situation he encountered in the Covid neighborhood:

“In the room, the hours passed slowly with anticipation and concern for everyone. In the corner near the window, Giannis, in his 55s, wearing a special breathing mask, has been fighting his own battle for days. His family called him regularly on video. He still didn’t have the strength to speak to them. But they talked to him, told him how much they loved him, how much they thought of him. Giving him courage and strength to continue fighting for himself and for them … In the bed next to him another man of about 65 years old was preparing to be discharged after almost a month of hospitalization. After days in a coma, he had made it. He talked non-stop with his family on the phone. He didn’t even seem to believe that he had won such a great battle. A battle for his own life. And he couldn’t wait to meet them … Grandpa Dimitris was on the last bed. Grandpa was around 90. The coroner had paid him. He seemed to be suffering from this whole situation. And in combination with his advanced age he was stuck in his bed trying to gasp for breath. I couldn’t hear him begging for some water. He knew that nurses were running in panic to tend to the hundreds of patients who were literally hanging out of the windows. What can they do first? I tried to help my grandfather from the first moment. I considered it my debt. Also, I was in my second home … What if my oxygen gradually dropped to 80%? What if I got dizzy within seconds when I pulled out the nasal catheter I was using and was forced to go to the bathroom? I could bear it. I tried to help him, to put the oxygen mask on him when he came out, to give him some water when he asked me … “

The big impact

THE Dimitris Peichaberis, loves it Sports. In his spare time he puts on his running shoes and “plows” the roads, covering long distances, from Marathon from Athens to an event in Thessaloniki. He does not smoke and follows a healthy lifestyle.. However, the virus managed to penetrate his body, causing severe pneumonia, as he writes in his post:

“The next day it was decided to do an axial thorax. The result confirmed my fears. I officially belonged to that 1% of the population who, without facing basic diseases, without smoking and who, while following an athletic lifestyle for years, had the misfortune of developing severe Covid pneumonia19. I asked one of my colleagues to send me a video of the axial. I was scared when I saw its extension. “Sometimes when you know the danger, when you have seen dozens of cases of people who have been intubated or even lost their lives in front of your eyes, you may worry even more when you know what could happen to you.”

Finally, describe images Y feelings felt by all patients in the room when a 90-year-old man who was treated with them, was unsuccessful and ended.

“The next day my grandfather got worse, he couldn’t bear it, went into a coma, had apnea and finally died. Another victim on the cursed coronation lists. The room was very quiet that day. No one was in the mood to talk to us … Days passed and luckily I began to see the first signs of improvement quickly. My people are always there to support me from day one and all good friends are there to give me courage, to support me. Colleagues are moving and ready to help me, to bring me the things I needed both during the quarantine period and during the time I was hospitalized. Like the nurses and other hospital staff who helped me to recover immediately and come out of this horrible adventure as unscathed as possible. A thank you is a little, I will always remember what you did for me. See you soon on the front lines of the battle … Good strength everyone !! “.
