The situation in hospitals in northern Greece is dramatic

Hospitals in northern Greece continue to receive suffocating pressure due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the result that hospitals are full and patients are dialysed even outside the ICU.

POEDIN President Michalis Giannakos sounds the alarm about the situation in hospitals in northern Greece, describes the situation as disappointing and notes that there is no decrease in the number of patients.

According to him, during yesterday’s service at AHEPA, more than 160 patients arrived, suspected cases of coronavirus, who waited 10 hours to be treated.

“Tragic situations”

“Fasting, with fever, 110 110 patients with coronavirus were admitted to a reception area for suspected cases. There were no beds and coronavirus patients already in treatment were transferred to Agios Pavlos hospital. In general, there were emergencies and due to lack of space they were transferred to private clinics ”, he characteristically states and adds:

“Patients who were transferred from hospitals to private non-emergency clinics were then referred from non-emergency to emergency clinics. We don’t know how imperative this is. Tragic situations for patients.”

“High mortality in ICU”

According to Mr. Giannakos, the AHEPA ICU had 3 empty beds, while three more were emptied after the death of three patients.

“The 6 beds were immediately filled with deliveries. The mortality rate in the ICUs of the city’s hospitals is very high. This shows the impossibility of timely treatment of patients due to lack of beds”, underlines the president of POEDIN and cites testimonies from workers in cardiac surgery units that were transformed into coronavirus ICUs: ».

The Alexandroupolis hospital employees are screaming in agony, you’ve reached the limit of your endurance, oh my god.

According to the employees, the oxygen supplies are not sufficient to cover the entire volume of Covid incidents. They even complain that among other problems that exist in the operation of the hospital due to the pandemic, on Wednesday night there were interruptions in the supply of oxygen in a Covid clinic. “They almost risked their lives,” they characteristically say.

At the University General Hospital of Alexandroupolis, 93 patients with covid-19 are currently being treated, of which 71 in the Covid-19 Unit, 18 in the Intensive Care Unit and four in the Special Infections Unit.

At the same time, the hospital receives daily serious cases (stroke, etc.) from the entire Region, according to inkomotini.news.

“I hope God has mercy on us!” Exclaims the director of the hospital’s Neurosurgery Clinic, Professor Theodosis Birbilis, whose message is shocking: “Walls are falling for new 8-bed ICUs out of nowhere, pressure from everywhere for 19 VOC patients, a new register of cases in neighboring cities, and daily, strokes from reborn brain aneurysms and cancers. I hope God has mercy on us! “

It is recalled that just 20 days ago an ICU ward was installed in the hospital in 24 hours.
