Goldsmith ‘Patriot’ Lagos votes against sanctions in Turkey – Politics

They were never patriots. Nor did they take into account the interests of their country. Goldsmiths systematically voted in the Greek parliament in favor of big capital and hid behind their national “costume”, spreading hatred.

They harassed, terrorized, beat, murdered and finally ended up in jail, after a trial that in any case is marked as one of the milestones of the year that is ending, and as one of the events that made all the Democrats in the country smile . through a pandemic.

The far right used populist arguments and, taking advantage of the economic crisis of the 1910s, entered parliament and brought to the fore the racist rhetoric and fascist ideology hidden behind the religious and supposedly patriotic “yahs.” Of course we are talking about the descendants of the local dosologists, after all, as the Greek pheasant said, “we are the seed of the losers of 1945.”

So while we continue to search for Michaloliakos “number 2” Christos Pappas, the other convicted gold prospector who has yet to enter his cell, MEP Giannis Lagos, refused to condemn Turkey’s illegal activities in Varosia, Cyprus. A Cyprus that was largely “sold” by the board of colonels that the gold diggers loved and love so much and used it many times as a point of reference in their public speeches.

In Lagos’ reasoning, his decision is based on “the hypocritical financing of Turkey by Germany”, stating that “Turkey cannot fail to collect some signatures”, while calling for the withdrawal of troops from the island, a request that … is included in the resolution of the EP!

In the resolution in question The European Parliament, which passed a resolution on Thursday with 631 votes in favor, three against and 59 abstentions, strongly condemned Turkey’s illegal activities in the suburbs of Varos in the besieged city of Famagusta and warned by a historic majority that its actions in the prospects for a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem, with sanctions now visible to the Erdogan government.

The 3 votes against the resolution came – without any surprise – from the far right in the European Parliament who call themselves “anti-Europeans” and tried to “differentiate themselves” in this way, popularizing their supposed anti-systemic course within Brussels. Of course, they did not act accordingly on the resolutions against abortion in Poland and against Orban’s methods against freedom of expression in his country.

Specifically, the Czech Ivan David, the Dutch Marcel de Graaf from the far-right political group “Identity and Democracy” and the one convicted by the Greek justice for participation in a criminal organization, Giannis Lagos, for whom the European Union is pending.

The news was confirmed today by Evangelos Meimarakis MEP, while AKEL and the Left Eurogroup have been calling for a resolution on Turkey’s methods in Cyprus for three months.

It should be noted that on Wednesday, the decision of the presidency of the European Parliament to give the floor to the condemned Giannis Lagos, provoked a strong reaction from the MEP of the Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis.

“Today is a day of shame for the European Parliament, because it gave the floor to someone who has been convicted by the Greek Justice for participating in a criminal organization that committed murders. What a shame!” Said Nikos Androulakis at the end of his speech at the European Parliament session on illegal Turkish actions in Varosia.

Lagos is still in Brussels, despite being convicted, as his parliamentary immunity has yet to be lifted. It is recalled that he was sentenced in the Golden Dawn trial to 13 years in prison and 8 months for running a criminal organization.

The resolution

The European Parliament resolution on the situation in Varos and Turkey’s non-compliance was voted in favor, as we mentioned, on Thursday with 631 votes in favor, in accordance with Resolutions 500 and 2483 of the UN Security Council.

Previously, an amendment tabled by the Greek and Cypriot EPP delegations was approved by a large majority (440 votes in favor, 193 against), at the initiative of Vangelis Meimarakis, Lefteris Christoforou and Loukas Fourlas (and is included in this resolution) which calls for “European Council to impose severe sanctions on Turkey in response to its illegal activities”.

At the same time, the EP “urges the Turkish government to reverse this decision and avoid any unilateral action that could cause further tensions on the island, according to a recent call by the United Nations Security Council. It calls on Turkey to withdraw its troops from Cyprus and transfer the Varos region to its legal inhabitants under the Interim Administration of the United Nations. in accordance with Resolution 550 (1984) of the UN Security Council, and refrain from any action that alters the demographic balance of the island through the implementation of a policy of illegal settlements ”.

The resolution reinforces support for France’s attempt to impose sanctions on Ankara at the EU summit next month. Of course, there are concerns on Berlin’s part, but the flagship majority is a strong lever of pressure for developments.

On Friday, Turkey rejected the European Parliament resolution imposing sanctions on Ankara, calling it “out of touch with reality” and calling it “blackmail”.

On November 15, Erdogan visited Varos, a fenced area that remained a neutral zone after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974.

Ankara backed the partial opening of Varos last month, drawing criticism from the United States, Greece and Cyprus.
