Black Friday 2020: Instructions to consumers, given on the occasion of today’s Black Friday, the General Secretariat of Commerce and Consumer Protection
In anticipation of the Black Friday trade today, Friday November 27, which often creates a sense of “urgency” when making a purchase decision, the Consumer Protection Directorate of the General Secretariat for Trade and Consumer Protection advises consumers that they take special care when carrying out their online transactions and check if the online stores provide the following information:
- The identity of the supplier (full name of the company, contact telephone numbers, email, postal address, VAT number and GEMI number).
- The main characteristics of the product.
- The total price of the product (including taxes, charges, shipping costs, any expenses in case of return, etc.). Please confirm that the price you are asked to pay is the same as that stated on the website.
Be especially careful about selling a product for an extremely low price, and avoid pop-up offers if they come from unknown sites.
- The availability, method of payment and shipping of the product.
It is pointed out that transactions via debit or credit card offer more guarantees for the consumer in case the company does not deliver the product, compared to the deposit in a bank account.
- The right of withdrawal and unjustified, non-refundable return of the product within 14 days of receipt, as well as the return policy of the company’s products in case of exercise of this right.
- The link for electronic consumer dispute resolution (Union-wide ADR platform).
- Website security information: display of a security icon, that is, a padlock at the top left of the browser, the email address that begins with https: //).
Consumers are also advised to:
- Please do not provide sensitive data unless you are absolutely sure of the security of the website.
- Ignore the offers that appear in your spam.
- You prefer to trade with well-known online stores.
- In cases of unknown online stores and before proceeding with the transaction, investigate their reputation on the Internet.
- Keep a record of your transactions.
For complaints about illegal and deceptive behavior, consumers can contact the Consumer Protection hotline 1520 of the General Directorate for Consumer Protection or submit their complaints through the complaint form published on the website of the Ministry of Development and Investments (www.mindevov .gr) or by email to [email protected]
