The dream turned … into a nightmare for AEK. Massimo Carrera’s team suffered a tough 3-0 defeat at Zoria’s OAKA for matchday 4 of the Europa League groups.

The “yellow-blacks”, who played a time with one less player due to the dismissal of Yevgeny Sakhof in the 49th minute, collapsed in the second half, conceded three goals and lost the opportunity to stay strong in the qualifying battle.
THE SURPRISE WITH ATHANASIADIS AND THE 3-5-2
Massimo Carrera had a surprise in the starting eleven, as he chose Giorgos Athanasiadis under the goalpost, with the 27-year-old goalkeeper debuting in the yellow and black jersey and indeed in a European match.
At the same time, as in the match against Ukraine, the Italian led his team in a 3-5-2 formation, with Svarna – Czigrinski – Nedelcearu in the blocks and Marco Livagia – Muamer Tankovic in attack.
The absence of Petros Mandalos on cards saw Carrera move to a more compact midfield with Andre Simoes at “6” and Yevgeny Sakhof, Nenad Kristisic as inside midfielders.
NO ΜΑΝΤΑΛΟΣ, NO PARTY
AEK came on the field hard, pushed high and created major developmental problems for Zoria, which was evident from the first few minutes that he will wait for his opponent and try to “hit” the counter. Livaja and Tankovic showed encouragement, they had good collaborations, with the Croatian striker having a good moment only in minute 3, but the cross shot he tried, went past Shevchenko’s left crossbar.
The ‘yellow-blacks’ had total control of the game, but they failed to create dangerous situations against the Ukrainians, who had closed the spaces and aimed for strong duels to tire and irritate the AEK players. It is characteristic that the only final of the guests in the first 30 minutes was a missed far shot by Gypsies
Obviously, Zoria was not after anything more than a draw, while at the same time the presence of three blocks deprived AEK of having one more player in the rival area. The Union had difficulties in the field of creation, the absence of Mandalos being more than notorious.
DISMISSAL OF SAKHOV AND STRENGTH GOALS
Carrera made no changes to either the faces or the design. However, three minutes after the start of the second half, the game numbers changed, after Sakhof received the second yellow card for an elbow to Ivanisenias. Despite being outnumbered, Union reacted and missed a good chance in the 52nd minute with Tankovic firing just outside the area, but Shevchenko served impressively from a corner.
After 55 ‘Zoria took the field and looked for the goal. And he managed to find it by taking advantage of Athanasiadis’s bad reaction. THE The gypsies crossed from the left, the AEK goalkeeper made a wrong start and Gromov before the empty net sent the ball into the net for 0-1.
The Ukrainians’ goal made the situation even more difficult for the “yellow-blacks”, with Carrera passing Galanopoulos and Ansarifard to give his team a boost.
MAKE … LUCK AND CONTINUITY OF NIGHTMARE
However, the opportunities came with the … dropper. The Union failed to develop properly but almost failed to score an incredible goal with Stratos Svarnas. The AEK defender, who had been transferred to the far right of the defense, made a … crooked kick, with the ball committing a strange foul and ending in Shevchenko’s crossbar.
Things got even worse for the “yellow-blacks”, who conceded two more goals from Kabaev in the 75th minute and Yurchenko in the 86th minute, who scored a penalty.
