To confirm that in the face of the coronavirus crisis, the State stands by all Greek women and all Greeks, workers, companies and the unemployed, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis addressed Parliament today during the debate on the Labor bill, recalling, among others, that by December the guaranteed minimum income for the almost 500,000 beneficiaries is doubled.

In fact, he highlighted that for the first time, homeless citizens are included, as well as women victims of violence who today live in shelters. “We did not plan it that way, but it is symbolic that this is voted today, World Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women,” commented Mr. Mitsotakis.

He pointed out that the guaranteed minimum income is a support mechanism for the weakest citizens that has been tested and endured over time, adding: “For almost half a million citizens who face the greatest difficulties, the government comes and doubles the benefit that will receive “.

The Prime Minister also referred to the repayable advance mechanism, a measure that, he stressed, has proven to be highly successful and affects very small and medium-sized companies that by their nature do not have access to bank loans. For this program it is repetitive and will be further enhanced if the needs of the time require it, he added. He said that the day before yesterday, a few days after the launch of the platform, 79,000 companies shared 420 million of the fourth cycle of the program. Initial applications exceeded 225,000 and now another 143,000 companies are added. In other words, in one week the government delivered 1,100 million euros to more than 220,000 companies.

“We are talking about cafes, taxis, rooms for rent, restaurants, hair salons, stores, retail businesses, law firms, accountants, tutoring centers, in every corner of the country,” Mitsotakis said, adding, “We want businesses to “stay alive. We want a company that has put its employees on hold to have the necessary liquidity, in combination with the regulation of loans, to be able to cover its operating costs to avoid the specter of bankruptcy.”

The Prime Minister recalled that yesterday he announced the launch of the process of converting fixed-term contracts into indefinite contracts for doctors who provide services in the ICU. He also referred to the hiring of 4,000 nurses so badly needed by the NSS to be able to support itself the next day. He argued that this is happening at the same time with more than double the number of ICUs, the support of hospitals in equipment and medicines, but in combination with an enormous work that is carried out daily on the fronts of control, detection, monitoring of cases of coronavirus and added: I defend the same faith and today a bill that complements the country’s economic shield. “

He accused the opposition and especially SYRIZA that they do not present any proposal, they simply say no to everything the government proposes or takes what the government does, for example in recruitment and duplicates it. Mr. Mitsotakis stated that the government’s focus is not on its political opponents, but on society, as the common enemy is called Covid-19.
