The number of cases may be declining, but the death toll from Covid-19 remains high in the country.

Speaking to LIVE NEWS and Nikos Evangelatos, Athanasios Exadaktylos, president of the Panhellenic Medical Association, noted that the figures show “the absence of all the theories that caressed our ears and relaxed us.”

Referring to the number of cases, Mr. Exadaktylos pointed out that “if we continue if we see such numbers then we will say that we are entering a stabilization phase that comes for the first time 10 days after the closure of all educational levels.”

The president of the Panhellenic Medical Association stressed that the reduced number of cases is partly due to the closure of schools, while if “the measures are lifted earlier, we will have a relapse, it will not be pleasant at all.”

The opening of schools on December 7 seems premature, according to Mr. Exadaktylos, while noting that a triple-digit number of cases will lead to the opening of schools, of course, depending on other factors.

Thessaloniki is on its borders

Regarding the situation in Thessaloniki, the president of the Panhellenic Medical Association pointed out that the city and the health system are “fighting to the limit”, which makes it difficult to treat other patients who do not have Covid-19.

“Every effort should be made to stop the spread of the virus.”

Regarding the possible opening of the confinement after Christmas, he stressed that the observance of simple measures is required, since they will avoid stricter measures.
