Turkey has summoned the ambassadors of Italy and the European Union, as well as the German envoy in Ankara, to give them a protest note against the attempt by a German frigate on a Turkish freighter bound for the port of Misrata.
The Turkish ship was suspected of violating the arms embargo on Libya, according to APE-MPE.
Hours earlier, Germany accused Turkey of preventing German forces participating in the European Irini mission from inspecting the ship, while Ankara said the investigation violated international law.
According to the announcement of the European military operation, nothing illegal was found on the ship, while, according to the German Defense Ministry, Turkey did not respond to the request for control until it was already underway.
