SYRIZA’s strong reaction was triggered by the government’s initiative to display in front of the national delegation snapshots of Greek history and important moments of the Greek army, as well as the image of the Virgin Mary in the context of the celebration of the Day of the Armed Forces. Every year, on November 21, day of the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the Day of the Armed Forces is celebrated at the initiative of the Greek State.
“For a cold insult to Democracy”, speaks the head of the Department of Education of SYRIZA, Nikos Filis on the occasion of the projection on the facade of Parliament, yesterday, the day of the Armed Forces and the Entrances of the Virgin, images that like characterizes “They refer to the infamous ‘Greece of the Greek Christians'”.
The building of the basic institution of the Republic was covered with images of military mobilization and religious representations, something completely inadmissible, says Mr. Filis, adding: “This is a front line, politically and aesthetically disgusting. Everyone understands what projection at the center of Parliament’s military exercises means. In fact, a few days after the government’s attempt to prevent by force and tarnish the symbolic, due to circumstances, the celebration of the Polytechnic ”.
Furthermore, Mr. Filis turns against the Prime Minister, stating: “It appears that the right-wing, far-right ‘serious’ and center-neoliberal coalition under Mitsotakis is eager for its future, after its admitted failure to face the second wave of the pandemic … There is no other explanation for his recent insistence on being renamed dirty waters of militarism, of darkness, of the authoritarianism and nationalism of the civil war. Are the benefits that ND expects from Golden Dawn’s “orphaned” remnants so important that it abandons its founding principles of a liberal center-right? The immediate future will show. “However, at this point, we’ve seen a lot of ‘liberalism’ from the board.”
