The Greeks’ coronavirus vaccination plan was announced by Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias in the context of positive announcements about Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

Mr. Kikilias explained that the vaccine will be free for everyone as it is considered a public good. Furthermore, the vaccines will be delivered to all EU countries at the same time, and will be priced the same for all Member States.

EU Vaccine Agreements

There will be a central supply of vaccines from the European Union and thus they will reach Greece.

The EU has signed agreements with Pfizer, Biontech, Astra Zeneca, Sanofi and Johnson & Johnson, and is in talks with other companies. A pre-purchase agreement has been signed with the first two, since the effectiveness of their experimental vaccine is 90%.

Vaccines in 1,018 centers throughout the country

The vaccines from the central warehouses will end up in the vaccination centers. A total of 1,018 vaccination centers will be built throughout the country. 2,117,440 citizens can be vaccinated per month.

Vassilis Kikilias clarified that if more doses of vaccines arrive, the vaccination centers will also increase. On average, a vaccination will last about 10 minutes.

Who will be the first to get the vaccine?

Priority for vaccination will be given to health and vulnerable groups, followed by the general population.

By appointment for the vaccine

Vaccinations will be carried out by appointment with the competent authorities. There are three alternatives to dating: either by sending an SMS, online or by phone.

The vaccination plan for nursing homes

For nursing homes there will be 65 mobile teams that will vaccinate both employees and guests.

Vaccine care for refugees

Mass vaccinations will be carried out in 34 reception centers for refugees and immigrants, 6 reception and identification centers, as well as 8 pre-exit centers.

Vaccines in 35 prisons in the country

A similar procedure will be followed in 35 prisons across the country.
