At the age of 82, Christos Papadopoulos, who became known throughout Greece for his heinous crimes, passed away.

Papadopoulos, who was mayor of Nea Chalkidona and executive of PASOK, will go down in history at the head of the so-called murderous company, since in 1987, at age 51, it was revealed that since 1981 he had been killing the elderly to seize their inheritance. for this reason the court sentenced him to 25 years in prison.

In 2009, at the age of 73, he was released from jail, but in 2011 he was again accused of kidnapping a woman and returned to prison for a short time.

After his release from prison, Christos Papadopoulos lived in Menidi. He was admitted to the Agia Olga hospital and after a short hospitalization he died.

The killer company

It was a criminal organization that approached the elderly and then murdered them to benefit their members of their wills, which they falsified. His action was revealed on Easter 1987.

The (then) 51-year-old lawyer Christos Papadopoulos was in charge of this gang. A man above suspicion, model of a successful citizen, former mayor of Nea Chalkidona, father of a family and father of three children.

The criminal organization had suitable people willing to fulfill its purposes, who were also considered ordinary people, heads of families, with no prior criminal records.

Among others, they participated in the gang:

-Vassilios Plataniotis, bailiff. He appeared as an aspiring “boyfriend” to the elderly women who were the target of the organization. Earn their trust while accessing your home. In consultation with Papadopoulos, they studied the movements of the victims and methodically carried out their heinous act.

-Ioannis Pampris, contractor. It was the man who promised to exterminate the corpses, the “undertaker” of the gang.

-Nikolaos Peppas, merchant. He was the deputy leader of Papadopoulos and together they devised plans for the criminal activity of his “company”.

-George Xanthopoulos, concierge. He was the “smoker” of the “company”.

-Georgia Papanikolaou, housewife, sheriff’s wife, who in the end turned out to be a tougher criminal and the inspiration for the “company.”

Plan

The organization began by finding victims with specific characteristics and especially elderly people, with financial resources, without close relatives, who faced health problems. Once identified, they began to progressively approach potential victims to gain their trust through various means. Once they achieved their goal, they falsified the will of their elder targets and then killed them in a way that seemed like a natural ending.

In the final stage, they published the wills with the help of the circle of collaborators who were necessary to complete their plans, such as notaries, bailiffs, and various false witnesses. The quality of the forgery was such that even the graphologists could not at first glance realize that the wills in question were forged and therefore did not express the last wish of the deceased.
