Deniers of the pandemic will be left out of the ICU

What if Switzerland has one of the most advanced healthcare systems in the world? Whatever it is Zurich University Hospital Are you considered one of the best in providing high quality medical services to everyone, as a public hospital?

The outbreak of the pandemic is increasingly forming suffocating condition in Intensive Care Units, whose fullness has reached and in many cases exceeded 100% since November 13.

The situation is so tragic that Willy Ogier, one of the leading public health consultants in Switzerland, suggested something at least controversial to curb the coronavirus. If one belongs to the skeptics or worse still to the virus deniers to lose the right to an ICU bed, right now there is such congestion.

“Anyone who deliberately ignores the rules of distance and hygiene should be held accountable for their actions. I suggest that these people be searched, that the hospitals know their details and that they not be provided with an intensive care bed.”

Even more shocking, however, is the announcement by the Swiss Society for Intensive Care (SGI). After informing citizens that the 876 ICUs that exist in the country are already full, and as they are not expected to be emptied soon, he asks them to indicate if they want to be treated in the event of a serious illness.

“All people, especially those at particular risk of contracting the new coronavirus, must state in advance their desire, in writing or by telephone, whether or not they wish to take measures to prolong life in the event of a serious illness. The statement supports both their family members and the teams of the intensive care units in making their decisions, and therefore in the provision of adequate treatment ”, says the relevant statement.

Although the country’s authorities have taken drastic measures, the situation remains particularly difficult. In many cases, additional beds have been added to hospital wards and patients with other illnesses are at risk of developing coronavirus due to suffocation.

The Swiss government has already made the army available to hospitals.

The medical staff is already exhausted. On Tuesday, 4,560 new cases were registered in Switzerland. In the vortex of the pandemic is even the World Health Organization, which has its offices in the Alpine country. Dozens of workers have tested positive for the virus and some have already been treated.

France has offered to admit patients from Switzerland to its own hospitals. Others leave the intensive care unit earlier, in an attempt to free the beds. Patients are encouraged to stay around even if their condition is deteriorating.

The impasse was seen a few days before. Τwhen the Swiss government made the army available to hospitals. According to an announcement by the Federal Council, the government “has decided to support the public health sector by recruiting up to 2,500 personnel as a support service.” Applications from the cantons will be considered by the central government.

Three days earlier, an intensivist warned citizens in particularly tragic tones. He spoke of a health disaster. He described that every 15 minutes the stretchers bring a patient with coronavirus, while in some areas half of the tests – and there are many tests carried out – come out positive!

An illustrative example of the horror of the situation is that doctors and nurses, who are infected with the coronavirus but have no symptoms, are encouraged to continue working in hospitals, observing all precautions.
