Undersecretary of Prime Minister Akis Skertsos gave clarifications on government allowances and measures against the pandemic in the “Good morning Greece” program, while also referring to the measures in view of the anniversary of the Polytechnic.
About social dividend as he said, vulnerable households will make it and decisions are expected in the coming days. Mr. Skertsos did not identify specific groups that will receive emergency aid, however he stressed that crossroads will be made so that those who really need it can obtain it and pointed out that it will be paid before Christmas.
Answer a question about Christmas gift Mr. Skertsos stated that his payment will be made on December 21 and it will be calculated on the actual salary received by the employee. At the same time, he noted that the right proportion will be given to employers. Regarding complaints from employees asking their employers to return the Christmas gift, Mr. Skertsos said that any employee who receives such a proposal must file a complaint with the labor inspectorate. “These practices are not tolerated,” he said.
About heating benefit stressed that the platform will open as soon as possible, while for debts with the tax office said there would be regulation.
Referring to the possibility of providing emergency assistance to health workers, he said the Ministry of Health has made suggestions to recognize their efforts.
Regarding the measures taken by the government against the coronavirus, he said that they will work as shown in the past and called on the public to limit the mate movements that are absolutely necessary. The curve already shows a flattening, he said.
Finally, answering a question about reactions to measures in view of the Polytechnic Mr. Skertsos stated that “the anniversary of the Polytechnic should be an opportunity for unity, there is no room for political retaliation. “There is a common enemy, the virus.” He stressed that the meetings should be avoided and accused the opposition that “on the one hand it says that there are no meetings and on the other it blames the government for the measures for the Polytechnic.”
