The infectious diseases committee was suggested to the government to close primary schools and kindergartens across the country, with the result that today official announcements are made by the Minister of Education, Niki Kerameos, the Minister of Health, Vassilis Kikilias and the Minister of the Interior, Takis Theodorikakos. .
The experts yesterday exhausted all the proposals and models they had for not closing primary schools and kindergartens, however the pressure on the UCI and the need to reduce traffic caused them to be led to the definitive “lock” throughout the territory. .
The meeting lasted about two hours, although there was no shortage of disagreements, as the experts also examined the universal “lock” and the possibility of closing primary schools and kindergartens only in northern Greece and in those areas that seem to have a strong epidemiological burden in the near future. 
In the end, the experts chose the most drastic and horizontal solution.
The main reasons were three:
- The need to reduce traffic and increase telework
- Curbing the spread of the virus among teachers
- Take steps so that ICUs are no longer burdened
In fact, the committee decided that with the closure of elementary schools, teleworking will increase, as this will force the children’s teachers and parents to work from home, who will also receive a special purpose permit.
This will end the synchronicity of parents outside of schools, but also of teachers in classrooms.
The latter was particularly concerned about the committee, as it appears that not only do teachers easily transmit the virus, but they also transmit each other.
In addition, there are many educational associations that with complaints and letters to the ministry have put pressure on the minister asking for stricter measures in schools and especially fewer children in classrooms.
Thus, on the one hand, pressure from teachers, on the other hand, the outbreak of the epidemic in northern Greece caused scientists and the government to choose a more drastic solution. 
No more pressure in the ICU
In addition, experts know that the days we are going through are extremely critical for the Health system.
Therefore, any decision that does not generate more pressure from the intensive care unit is now necessary, especially in northern Greece.
It is no secret that all the attention of scientists is focused on hospitals and ICUs, as the health system is being tested very intensively, reaching its limits.
Indicative of the problem in the north, is that the Ministry of Health announced yesterday that there are only 11 empty ICU beds for Covid-19 in Thessaloniki.
In any case, as the experts emphasize again, the decision was not made because the problem was the children.
After all, there are already several valid studies that show that children do not contract and transmit the virus as easily, and even if they do, they show much milder symptoms. 
When will we see light in the tunnel?
However, in a more general context, experts estimate that the effect of the block will soon be seen first in cases (in approximately one week) and in the transmissibility index (TR), but lastly in ICUs (in approximately two weeks).
